Labour ComplianceThe Labour Department, Govt. of Tripura on January 20, 2026, issued the Draft Tripura Wages Rules, 2026.

The following has been stated:

• The rules empower the government to fix and revise minimum wages for different categories of employees based on skill level, nature of work, and employment sector to ensure fair wages. They also provide for Variable Dearness Allowance (VDA) linked to the Consumer Price Index to adjust wages periodically for inflation.

• The rules prescribe different wage periods, such as hourly, daily, weekly, or monthly, and require employers to pay wages within specified timelines depending on the wage period. Employers shall also maintain proper records, registers, and wage slips for employees to ensure transparency and compliance with labour laws.

• Additionally, the rules mandate that overtime work shall be paid at twice the normal rate of wages, and the government may appoint authorities for inspection, enforcement, and resolution of wage-related claims or disputes.

• These provisions aim to strengthen worker protection, improve wage transparency, and align the state’s labour framework with the national labour codes.
