The Government of Tamil Nadu, on March 14, 2026, issued amendments to the Tamil Nadu Private Schools (Regulation) Rules, 2023.
The following has been stated: -
•Under the Tamil Nadu Private Schools (Regulation) Act, 2018, amendments have been made to the 2023 Rules regarding school recognition and inspection.
•Recognition certificates for private schools will now be valid for 3 years, with renewal also for 3 years.
•Existing schools with permanent recognition under the Tamil Nadu Recognised Private Schools (Regulation) Act, 1973 will continue, subject to submission of valid compliance certificates.
•Schools with three consecutive compliant terms can opt for extended recognition of 20 years.
•Annual inspections are mandatory, and self-financing schools must pay prescribed inspection fees ranging from ₹2,000 to ₹10,000 based on category.
