The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) on March 17, 2026 held a high-level industry interaction led by Chairman Ajay Seth to address key challenges in the health insurance ecosystem. Hosted by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), the meeting brought together hospitals, healthcare associations, and insurance companies to develop a coordinated roadmap for reforms through five specialized working groups.
These working groups will focus on improving transparency, insurance penetration, and patient experience by addressing operational gaps between insurers and healthcare providers. Key areas include developing a joint code of conduct, standardizing provider categorization, scaling up the National Health Claims Exchange (NHCX), conducting analytical studies on claims and medical inflation, and designing simplified, wellness-oriented insurance products.
The initiative aims to create a sustainable and efficient healthcare ecosystem with patient-centric outcomes. The working groups are expected to begin operations from April 2026, and their recommendations will guide future industry standards and regulatory frameworks.
