The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) on March 18, 2026, issued a notification regarding the Small Hydro Power Development Scheme (2026–31).
The following has been stated: -
•The Union Cabinet, led by Narendra Modi, approved the SHP scheme with ₹2,584.6 crore outlay to develop ~1500 MW capacity (1–25 MW projects).
•Higher financial support is provided for North Eastern and border areas, encouraging clean energy growth in remote regions.
•The scheme is expected to attract ₹15,000 crore investment, promote indigenous manufacturing, and generate ~51 lakh person-days of employment.
•It will boost sustainable energy with minimal environmental impact while supporting rural development and long-term economic growth.
