The Government of Uttar Pradesh, on March 10, 2026, issued the Draft Uttar Pradesh Social Security Code Rules, 2026.
The following has been stated: -
•The Social Security Code, 2020, was enforced in November 2025, prompting Uttar Pradesh to finalize the Uttar Pradesh Social Security Code Rules, 2026.
•The 2026 rules replace earlier state laws on workmen’s compensation, maternity benefits, and unorganized workers’ social security.
•Public feedback on the draft rules can be submitted within 45 days to state labour authorities.
•The rules establish key bodies like the UP Unorganized Workers Social Security Board and Construction Workers Welfare Board with defined composition and 3-year terms.
•These boards handle worker welfare schemes, fund management, and policy recommendations for unorganized and construction workers.
•The Social Security Fund will be financed by government and worker contributions, with accounts audited by the Comptroller and Auditor General of India.
