Commercial ComplianceThe Government of Maharashtra on March 13, 2026, issued the Maharashtra Urban Development Control and Promotion Rules (Amendment) Bill, 2026, to further amend the Maharashtra Urban Development Control and Promotion Regulations, 2020.

The following has been amended:

• The bill introduces changes to the existing urban development control and promotion rules to improve planning, regulation, and development processes in urban areas. 

• The amendment primarily aims to update and rationalize development control regulations applicable to urban planning authorities in Maharashtra. It enables the State Government and planning authorities to revise and standardize development norms, including building regulations, land use planning, and development permissions, to ensure more efficient urban growth. 

• The amendment also strengthens the implementation of unified development control and promotion rules, allowing consistent planning standards across municipal corporations and other urban local bodies.

• Further, the bill seeks to streamline the approval and regulatory framework for urban development projects, making procedures clearer for developers and planning authorities. It promotes better coordination between state authorities and local planning bodies in enforcing development regulations and ensures that urban development takes place in accordance with approved plans and policies.
