Industry Specific ComplianceThe Government of Andhra Pradesh on February 13, 2026, issued the Andhra Pradesh Municipal Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2026, further to amend the Municipal Corporations Act, 1955, and Andhra Pradesh Municipalities Act, 1965.

The following has been amended to the Municipal Corporations Act, 1955:

• “Infectious disease” is now defined as any disease notified by the Government for a specific area or entire State.

• The term “leper” has been omitted from disqualification provisions, ensuring no exclusion based on leprosy.

The following has been amended to the Andhra Pradesh Municipalities Act, 1965:

• References to persons suffering from leprosy have been removed from sections relating to disqualification for membership.

• Section 287 was substituted to allow authorities to prevent or expel persons with infectious diseases from markets.

• Section 309 revised to align the definition of “infectious disease” with the government notification-based approach.

• The existing schedule V has been removed as part of legal rationalisation.
