The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) on March 18, 2026, notified regarding the implementation of ‘Food Recall’ functionality under the Food Safety Compliance System (FoSCoS).
The following has been stated:
• It has operationalized a “Food Recall” feature within the FoSCoS system to streamline recall processes under the Food Recall Procedure Regulations, 2017. This enables better monitoring, traceability, and consumer awareness regarding recalled food products.
• Designated Officers (DOs) and Central Licensing Authorities (CLAs) are required to create and update all recall cases in FoSCoS using their login credentials. Similarly, Food Business Operators (FBOs) shall initiate and update recalls through the system, while also accessing recalls initiated by authorities for necessary action.
• Consumers and stakeholders can view recall information directly on the FoSCoS homepage under the “Food Recall” section. State/UT Commissioners and FSSAI Regional Directors have been instructed to ensure compliance by authorities and FBOs.
