Industry Specific ComplianceThe Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) on March 18, 2026, issued an order regarding Compliance obligations of E-commerce FBOs in the context of the Open Network for Digital Commerce model.

The following has been stated: -

•Under the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India regulations (2021 amendment), e-commerce food business operators must obtain a central license if they list or facilitate the sale of food products online.

•The Open Network for Digital Commerce introduces a decentralized model where multiple entities (Buyer Apps and Seller Apps) participate in a single transaction.

•FSSAI has clarified and divided compliance responsibilities among these entities to ensure accountability in the ONDC framework, effective from April 01, 2026.

•The e-commerce category in FoSCoS has been updated to improve traceability by capturing details of both buyer-side and seller-side platforms.
