The Department of Housing and Urban Affairs, Assam (DoHUA), on January 22, 2026, issued a notification finalizing the Assam Tenancy Rules, 2025 after considering objections and suggestions received from the public on the draft rules published earlier in July 2025. The rules have been framed under the powers conferred by Section 44 of the Assam Tenancy Act, 2021.
These rules provide the procedural framework for implementation of tenancy law in Assam, including definitions of key terms such as appeal, applicant, memorandum, and parties, along with processes relating to Rent Authority, Rent Court, and Rent Tribunal. The rules aim to standardize procedures for filing applications, appeals, and handling tenancy disputes.
The rules shall come into force from the date of their publication in the Official Gazette, thereby operationalizing the provisions of the parent Act and strengthening the legal mechanism governing landlord-tenant relationships in the state.
