The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) on March 18, 2026, notified Income Tax Offices to Remain Open on March 31, 2026 Despite Holiday.
The Central Board of Direct Taxes has directed that all Income Tax Offices across India will remain open on March 31, 2026, even though it is a closed holiday on account of Mahavir Jayanti, to facilitate the completion of pending financial year-end work for FY 2025–26. This decision has been taken for administrative convenience under the powers granted by Section 119 of the Income-tax Act, 1961, ensuring that critical tax-related activities and deadlines can be effectively managed before the close of the financial year.
