Industry Specific ComplianceThe Ministry of Textiles (MoT) on March 20, 2026, notified regarding the Stock Limits and Compliance Directions for Raw Jute under Jute Control Order, 2016.

The following has been stated:

• The order prescribes strict stock limits on raw jute for different categories—600 quintals for registered balers, NIL stock for other stockists (who must liquidate existing stock), and 45 days’ consumption for jute mills. Any excess stock shall be sold by March 31, 2026, and delivered by April 10, 2026, with mandatory compliance reporting. 

• The order also requires fortnightly stock disclosure on the Jute SMART portal and treats stock in a shared premise as a single aggregated stock for limit purposes. 

• Non-compliance attracts penal action under the Essential Commodities Act, 1955, including imprisonment and fine, along with powers of inspection, search, and seizure by authorities. 

• The order is effective immediately, with limited exemptions for exports, imported jute, and the Jute Corporation of India, and remains in force until further modification.
