Commercial ComplianceThe Government of Uttar Pradesh, on February 2, 2026, notified the Uttar Pradesh Municipal Corporation (Regulation of Sky Signs and Advertisements) Rules, 2026, superseding all previous provisions to establish a comprehensive regulatory framework for outdoor advertisements.

The rules apply to all Municipal Corporations in the state and mandate that no advertisement, hoarding, or sky sign can be displayed without prior written permission from the Municipal Commissioner or authorized officer. They provide detailed definitions covering various types of advertisements such as digital signs, banners, illuminated signs, roof signs, and temporary displays, ensuring clarity and uniform interpretation. Existing approved advertisement contracts will remain valid until their expiry.

The framework introduces structured governance including licensing, fee mechanisms, and technical oversight, along with strict prohibitions on unauthorized displays on public infrastructure like roads, bridges, and buildings. The objective is to regulate urban advertising, ensure public safety, maintain aesthetics, and streamline compliance through standardized procedures across municipal bodies.
