The Government of Goa on March 20, 2026, issued the Goa Wellness, Ayurveda and Yoga Policy, 2026 to establish a comprehensive regulatory and accreditation framework governing the establishment, operation, and recognition of Wellness, Ayurveda, and Yoga Centres within the State of Goa.
Goa, traditionally known for its coastal tourism, is now repositioning itself as a safe, sustainable, and diversified destination offering high-value, year-round experiences. As part of this shift, wellness tourism has been identified as a priority sector under the State’s tourism strategy. The focus is on building a regenerative tourism model that promotes sustainability, community participation, cultural preservation, and long-term resilience.
The State aims to develop a structured wellness ecosystem that combines preventive healthcare, Ayurveda, yoga, holistic therapies, and nature-based experiences. Establishing and regulating quality wellness facilities is seen as essential to support this vision, while also promoting local livelihoods and balanced regional development, especially in rural and hinterland areas. Accordingly, the Goa Wellness, Ayurveda and Yoga Policy, 2026 has been introduced as a comprehensive framework to organize, regulate, and promote the sector.
The policy seeks to position Goa as a globally recognized wellness destination by ensuring high standards, safety, authenticity, and ethical practices. It aims to create a robust regulatory and accreditation system, curb unauthorized or substandard centres, and enhance visitor confidence. Additionally, it focuses on generating employment, encouraging skill development and entrepreneurship, and aligning with national standards, particularly those of the Ministry of AYUSH.
The policy applies to all wellness, Ayurveda, and yoga centres in Goa, whether standalone or part of hotels and resorts. It governs their registration, accreditation, quality standards, and monitoring. While accreditation is generally voluntary, it becomes mandatory for centres seeking official recognition or promotion under Goa Tourism initiatives. The policy is applicable to both existing and new establishments, subject to specified compliance timelines and conditions.
The notification shall come into force from March 20, 2026.
