The Punjab Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board (PBOCWWB), on March 11, 2026, issued directions regarding registration of workers under the Viksit Bharat – Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) (formerly MGNREGA) under the Building and Other Construction Workers Act, 1996.
The circular clarifies that work performed under the scheme will now be considered valid for registration under the BOCW Act. The number of days worked under the scheme will count toward the statutory requirement of 90 days of construction work needed for eligibility, along with other sources of employment where applicable.
Illustratively, if a worker completes partial days (e.g., 15 or 55 days), the balance must be fulfilled through other work, whereas workers completing 90 or more days under the scheme alone will qualify directly. Field officers have been instructed to ensure strict compliance with these provisions. [Circular No. BOCW:2026:696]
