The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) on March 25, 2026 has issued an office memorandum notifying the annual change in Wholesale Price Index (WPI) for the calendar year 2025 over 2024. Based on data from the Office of the Economic Advisor, the WPI increase has been calculated at (+)0.64956%.
In line with Paragraph 16(2) of the Drugs (Prices Control) Order, 2013, the authority has clarified that manufacturers are permitted to increase the Maximum Retail Price (MRP) of scheduled formulations in accordance with the notified WPI. Such price revisions do not require prior approval from the Government.
The memorandum serves as an official intimation to all stakeholders to take necessary action as per the provisions of DPCO, 2013 regarding permissible price adjustments.
