The Government of Himachal Pradesh on March 23, 2026 has notified the Himachal Pradesh Lease (Amendment) Rules, 2026 after publication of draft rules and no objections being received within the stipulated period. The amendment has been made under the Himachal Pradesh Village Common Lands Vesting and Utilization Act, 1974 and the Himachal Pradesh Ceiling on Land Holdings Act, 1972.
The amendment primarily revises Rule 7 of the Himachal Pradesh Lease Rules, 2013 by prescribing that lease of land by the State Government shall not exceed 40 years in general. However, an exception has been provided for leases granted in favour of HIMUDA, where the lease period may extend up to 80 years.
These amended rules shall come into force from the date of their publication in the official e-Gazette of Himachal Pradesh.
