The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) on March 25, 2026 has issued an order revising ceiling prices of scheduled formulations under the Drugs (Prices Control) Order, 2013. The revision is based on the annual Wholesale Price Index (WPI) increase of 0.64956% for the year 2025 over 2024.
The order fixes updated ceiling prices (exclusive of GST) for various essential medicines such as Acetyl Salicylic Acid, Calcium Carbonate, Dapsone, Rifampicin, and others, effective from April 1, 2026. Manufacturers selling above the notified ceiling prices are required to reduce prices accordingly, while those selling below may increase prices within the permissible WPI limit.
The notification also prescribes compliance requirements including submission of revised price lists, quarterly returns, and prior approval for new drugs. Non-compliance will attract recovery of overcharged amounts with interest under DPCO, 2013 and the Essential Commodities Act, 1955.
