The Labour Welfare and Skill Development Department, Govt. of Tamil Nadu on March 24, 2026, notified regarding the Paid Holiday to workers and other employees of all categories due to General Elections to Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly, 2026.
The following has been stated:
• The Election Commission of India has scheduled Tamil Nadu Assembly elections on April 23, 2026, and Kerala & Puducherry elections on April 09, 2026.
• As per Section 135B of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, all employees (including casual and daily wage workers) shall be granted a paid holiday on poll day without wage deduction.
• The benefit applies even to employees working outside their constituency but registered as voters there.
• Employers across industries, including shops, factories, IT/BPOs, shall ensure compliance, failing which penalties may be imposed.
