The National Stock Exchange (NSE) on March 27, 2026, notified regarding the Introduction of dated Brent Crude Oil (Platts) Futures contracts in the NSE Commodity Derivatives Segment.
The following has been stated:
• It has announced the launch of Dated Brent Crude Oil (Platts) Futures contracts in its commodity derivatives segment, effective April 13, 2026, after approval from the Securities and Exchange Board of India. The contract is based on the Platts Dated Brent benchmark and will be traded under the symbol BRCRUDEOIL with monthly expiries.
• Trading will take place from Monday to Friday between 9:00 AM and late evening (aligned with US daylight saving timings), with a trading unit of 100 barrels and price quoted in ₹ per barrel. The contracts will be cash-settled, with the final settlement price determined using the monthly average of Platts Brent prices converted into INR using RBI reference rates.
• The circular also lays down detailed risk and trading parameters, including a daily price limit of 6% (extendable to 9% or higher in exceptional global volatility), initial margins based on SPAN or volatility, and an extreme loss margin of 1%, with provisions for additional margins during high volatility.
• Position limits are capped at 40 lakh barrels for members and 4 lakh barrels for clients (or a percentage of market-wide positions, whichever is higher). Contracts will expire on the last business day of the contract month, and new contracts will be introduced monthly as per the launch calendar extending up to December 2027.
