The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) on March 25, 2026, revised the ceiling prices of specified scheduled formulations based on the Wholesale Price Index (WPI) increase of 0.64956% for the year 2025 over 2024. The revision applies to Piperacillin (A) + Tazobactam (B) injections in dual chamber bags with specified strengths, with new ceiling prices effective from April 1, 2026.
The order mandates that manufacturers selling these formulations above the notified ceiling price must reduce their prices accordingly, while those with lower MRPs may revise prices in line with WPI provisions under the Drugs (Prices Control) Order, 2013. Manufacturers are also required to comply with procedural requirements such as submission of revised price details in prescribed forms and issuance of updated price lists.
Additionally, the notification provides compliance obligations including GST applicability, quarterly reporting, prior approval for new drugs, and advance intimation for discontinuation of production. Non-compliance with the prescribed ceiling prices will attract recovery of overcharged amounts with interest under the applicable legal provisions.
