The Central Depository Services Limited (CDSL) on March 13, 2026, issued the notification regarding the Facility for Basic Services Demat Account (BSDA).
The following has been stated namely: -
• Securities and Exchange Board of India has introduced revised norms for Basic Services Demat Account (BSDA), excluding ZCZP bonds, delisted securities, and suspended securities from eligibility calculation; illiquid securities to be valued at last closing price.
• DPs must reassess BSDA eligibility quarterly and convert eligible demat accounts into BSDA unless the client opts out with explicit consent (recording consent date and mode).
• For new accounts, DPs shall open BSDA by default (flag “Y”) if eligible; accounts can be marked non-BSDA (“N”) or opt-out (“O”) based on conditions and client consent.
• Central Depository Services (India) Limited will provide quarterly data/files (BSDA eligibility, multiple accounts, PAN exemptions, BO details) and daily reports (DPJ9, DPK3) to assist DPs in compliance.
• Provisions applicable from March 31, 2026, system changes implemented from EOD March 30, 2026. DPs must also maintain audit trails, update tariff changes, and inform clients of any BSDA status modifications.
