The Election Commission of India has notified April 23, 2026 (Thursday) as the poll day for the General Elections to the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly, 2026. In view of this, the Government of Tamil Nadu has declared the day as a public holiday under Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881.

The notification, issued under the authority of the Governor of Tamil Nadu and to be published in the Extraordinary Gazette dated March 26, 2026, ensures that voters are able to participate in the election process without any hindrance.

Accordingly, all establishments covered under the Act will observe a public holiday on the poll day to facilitate maximum voter participation across the state.
