Industry Specific ComplianceThe Ministry of Steel, on March 30, 2026, notified the Cookware, Utensils and Cans for Foods and Beverages (Quality Control) Order, 2026, in supersession of the Cookware, Utensils and Cans for Foods and Beverages (Quality Control) Order 2025.

The following has been stated: -

•The Order mandates that specified cookware, utensils, and cans must conform to Indian Standards and bear the BIS Standard Mark under licence from the Bureau of Indian Standards. 

•It comes into force upon publication in the Official Gazette, with phased implementation dates for general, small, and micro enterprises. 

•Exemptions apply to export goods, pre-implementation stock (allowed for sale up to 6 months with declaration), and imported filled products.

•Up to 200 units per year can be imported for R&D purposes without compliance, subject to non-commercial use and record maintenance. 

•BIS is designated as the certification and enforcement authority for ensuring compliance with the prescribed standards.

It shall come into force on March 31, 2026.
