Commercial ComplianceThe Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), on March 27, 2026, issued a notification under Rule 15(1) of the BIS Rules, 2018, announcing the establishment of several revised Indian Standards effective March 25, 2026, covering engineering design and safety domains.

The notification introduces updated standards including IS 3111:2026 (Silver Thread — Specification) and multiple revised parts of IS 2974:2026 relating to design and construction of machine foundations (Parts 1 to 4 covering general provisions, block foundations, frame foundations, and foundations for hammers and presses). Additionally, a new standard IS 19687:2026 provides safety guidelines and precautions for abandonment of tubewells and borewells.

The earlier versions of the revised standards will remain in force concurrently until September 25, 2026, after which they will be withdrawn, while IS 19687:2026 has no corresponding previous standard. This ensures a transition period for industry compliance with updated technical and safety requirements.
