The Ministry of Labour and Employment (MoLE) on March 30, 2026, issued a notification under the Code on Social Security, 2020, specifying the applicability of Employees’ State Insurance (ESI) provisions to additional regions in the State of Mizoram.
Effective April 1, 2026, employers and employees in establishments located across the districts of Saitual, Serchhip, Khawzawl, Champhai, Lawngtlai, Lunglei, Saiha, Mamit, Kolasib, and Hnahthial will be required to contribute under Section 29 of the Code. Consequently, employees in these areas will become eligible for benefits under Chapter IV of the ESI scheme administered by the Employees' State Insurance Corporation.
This move extends social security coverage to more workers, ensuring access to medical, sickness, maternity, and other statutory benefits under the ESI framework.
