The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare (MoA&FW) on March 25, 2026, notified regarding the Specification of Packaging Sizes for Biofertilisers.
The Central Government, under the Fertiliser (Inorganic, Organic or Mixed) (Control) Order, 1985, has prescribed standard packaging sizes for biofertilisers to regulate their sale. As per the notification, Vesicular Arbuscular Mycorrhiza (VAM) shall be packed between 500 g to 5 kg (with a lower limit of 100 g for spore-based formulations), carrier-based biofertilisers between 200 g to 1 kg, and liquid biofertilisers between 50 mL to 1 litre.
These provisions will come into effect from April 1, 2026. However, the rules will not apply to existing stock packed before the notification date, allowing such products to be sold until their expiry.
