The Government of Meghalaya, on March 2, 2026, issued a press release informing that the Education Department has notified the Meghalaya Registration of Private Coaching Centre Rules, 2026, mandating registration and regulation of coaching centres.
The rules require all private coaching centres, operating in both online and offline modes, to obtain mandatory registration and comply with prescribed student protection norms, including establishment of effective grievance redressal mechanisms to safeguard student interests.
The notification has been issued in compliance with the directions of the Hon’ble Supreme Court in the matter of Sukdeb Saha v. State of Andhra Pradesh & Ors. (Judgment dated July 25, 2025), and all coaching centres in East Khasi Hills District are directed to register and ensure strict adherence to the provisions.
