The Government of Tamil Nadu, on March 26, 2026, issued a notification declaring Thursday, April 23, 2026, as a public holiday across the state on account of the General Elections to the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly, 2026.
The holiday has been declared under the provisions of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881, enabling closure of public offices and institutions on the poll day to facilitate voter participation.
