The Government of Kerala, on March 26, 2026, issued a notification regarding declaration of a paid holiday for electors of Tamil Nadu residing in Kerala.
The following has been stated: -
•Under Section 135B of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, all eligible voters employed in any establishment must be granted a paid holiday on the day of polling.
•Employers cannot deduct wages for this holiday, and even daily wage or casual workers are entitled to full pay.
•Failure to comply may result in a fine of up to ₹500 for the employer.
•This provision also applies to employees working outside their registered constituency to enable them to vote.
•Accordingly, April 23, 2026, has been declared a paid holiday for Tamil Nadu electors working in Kerala for the State Assembly elections.
