The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) on April 01, 2026, notified regarding the Supply of essential commodities to the Republic of Maldives during FY 2026-27.
The following has been stated:
• It permits export of specified essential commodities from India to the Republic of Maldives for the financial year 2026–27 under a bilateral arrangement. Fixed quantity limits have been prescribed for items such as eggs, potatoes, onions, rice, wheat flour, sugar, pulses, stone aggregates, and river sand.
• These exports are exempted from any existing or future export restrictions during the said period, ensuring uninterrupted supply to the Maldives. However, exports shall be routed only through designated ports such as Mundra, Tuticorin, Nhava Sheva, Kandla, Visakhapatnam, and ICD Tughlakabad.
• In the case of sand and stone aggregates, strict environmental conditions apply, including compliance with environmental laws, prohibition on mining in coastal regulation zones, and the requirement of approvals from competent state authorities.
• Additionally, exports of eggs shall meet quality standards and be accompanied by a health certificate issued by the Export Inspection Council.
