The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) on March 31, 2026, notified regarding the amendment to Paragraph 4.43 of the Foreign Trade Policy (FTP) 2023 -One-time relaxation for the Gems and Jewellery Sector.
The following has been stated:
• It states that under the existing provision, eligible exporters of cut and polished diamonds (0.25 carat and above) were allowed to re-import such goods within 3 months at zero duty after export for certification purposes.
• The amendment grants an automatic extension of 30 days (making it effectively 4 months) for cases where the re-import deadline falls between March 1, 2026, and May 31, 2026.
• This relaxation aims to mitigate hardships caused by geopolitical tensions in West Asia, which have led to logistical disruptions and delays in shipments, thereby helping exporters comply without losing duty benefits.
