Industry Specific ComplianceThe Department of Food & Public Distribution (DFPD) on March 30, 2026, issued directive on Monthly Release/Stock Holding Limit for Sugar Mills – April 2026.

The government, using powers under the Essential Commodities Act, 1955 and the Sugar (Control) Order, 2025, has issued a directive to all sugar producers using the vacuum pan process.

They must hold (not sell beyond a limit) their white/refined sugar stock until 30 April 2026, unless further orders are issued.

The allowed quantity of sugar they can release/sell is calculated as:

Opening stock on 1 April 2026

Production during April 2026

− A specified limit (given in a table for each sugar mill)

In short, the government is restricting how much sugar mills can sell in April 2026 by setting stock limits to control supply.
