The Department of Panchayati Raj, Himachal Pradesh, on March 30, 2026, notified the Himachal Pradesh Panchayati Raj (Election) Amendment Rules, 2026, further to amend the Himachal Pradesh Panchayati Raj (Election) Rules, 1994.
The following has been stated: -
•These rules amend the Himachal Pradesh Panchayati Raj (Election) Rules, 1994.
•The amendments empower the Deputy Commissioner to modify the roster of panchayat members up to 5% of total seats based on geographical or special conditions.
•Similar powers are granted to adjust the roster of Gram Panchayat Pradhans up to 5% of total posts in a block.
•The Deputy Commissioner can also alter the roster of Panchayat Samiti Chairpersons up to 5% of the total posts in a district.
•These changes aim to address practical and geographical considerations in local governance.
These rules shall come into force on March 31, 2026.
