The Government of Punjab, on March 30, 2026, notified the Punjab Brewery (First Amendment) Rules, 2026, to amend the Punjab Brewery Rules, 1956.
The following has been stated: -
•This notification introduces the Punjab Brewery (First Amendment) Rules, 2026, issued by the Excise Commissioner of Punjab.
•The rules are scheduled to come into official force starting from April 01, 2026.
•A new definition for "High Gravity Brewing" is added, involving the dilution of concentrated beer to a desired strength.
•The license fee for breweries is established at a sum of two crores sixty-four lakh rupees.
•A Letter of Intent (LOI) for a new Brewery License requires a payment of three crore seventy-eight lakh rupees.
•These LOIs are valid for two years and have specific escalating fees for the first, second, and third renewals.
•Rule 8 is amended to increase the base fee and the rate per lakh hecto-litre for brewery operations.
•The minimum substitution fee for these operations is now set at two hundred and twenty-eight lakh rupees.
