The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on April 01, 2026, issued the Master Direction – Facility for Exchange of Notes and Coins.
The following has been stated: -
•The Reserve Bank of India has issued guidelines under the Banking Regulation Act, 1949, for providing note and coin exchange facilities to the public.
•A consolidated Master Direction has been introduced to bring all existing instructions into a single reference document.
•This aims to ensure uniform implementation by banks across the country.
•All previous circulars and master directions on this subject stand withdrawn from the date of issuance.
