Industry Specific ComplianceThe Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), on April 01, 2026, issued a notification amending the import policy for items covered under CTH 7113 (articles of jewellery) of ITC (HS) 2022, in exercise of powers under the Foreign Trade (Development & Regulation) Act, 1992 and Foreign Trade Policy, 2023.

The notification revises the import policy of several jewellery items (silver, gold, platinum, and related parts) from “Free” to “Restricted”, thereby requiring an import license. However, imports under valid India-UAE CEPA TRQ continue to be permitted without license, and certain categories such as 100% EOUs, SEZ units (subject to conditions), and export-oriented schemes remain exempt from these restrictions.

The amended policy is effective immediately and applies irrespective of prior contracts, letters of credit, or shipment status, with no benefit of transitional arrangements allowed.
