The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on April 02, 2026, issued a notification regarding Memorandum of Instructions governing money changing activities – Location of Forex Counters in International Airports in India.
The following has been stated: -
•The Reserve Bank of India has revised guidelines on money-changing activities at international airports.
•Residents, along with non-residents, are now permitted to exchange Indian Rupee notes at forex counters located in departure halls beyond Immigration or Customs.
•The Master Direction on Money Changing Activities has been amended accordingly.
•These directions are issued under the Foreign Exchange Management Act, 1999, and authorised persons must inform their customers.
