The Government of Madhya Pradesh, on March 25, 2026, enacted the Madhya Pradesh Shram Kalyan Nidhi (Sanshodhan) Adhiniyam, 2026, amending the Madhya Pradesh Shram Kalyan Nidhi Adhiniyam, 1982. The Act received the Governor’s assent on March 25, 2026 and was published in the Official Gazette on March 26, 2026, coming into force from the date of such publication.
The amendment primarily modifies definitions under Section 2 of the principal Act. It expands the scope of the term “Employer” by inserting the words “or occupier,” thereby broadening the category of persons responsible under the Act. Additionally, a new clause (10-a) is introduced defining “Slate pencil contribution” as a specific sum payable to the Welfare Board in accordance with provisions of Section 9-A.
These changes aim to strengthen the framework of labour welfare contributions and clarify the applicability of obligations under the Act by including occupiers and introducing specific contribution categories.
