NPCI notified regarding the Enablement of Bulk Payments in IMPS

Industry Specific ComplianceThe National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) on March 12, 2026, issued the notification regarding the Enablement of Bulk Payments in IMPS.

The following has been stated namely: -

• National Payments Corporation of India has enabled Bulk Payments in IMPS, allowing one debit transaction to generate multiple real-time credits to beneficiaries. 

• Banks can offer this feature subject to NPCI’s IMPS Bulk Payment technical specifications (March 2026) and compliance requirements. 

• Each bulk transaction will have a Parent Transaction ID & Parent RRN, while each individual payment will have a Child Transaction ID & Child RRN for tracking. 

• A mandatory purpose code ‘89’ must be used for all IMPS Bulk Payment transactions. 

• Existing IMPS transaction limits will continue to apply individually to each beneficiary (child transaction). 

• Each child transaction is treated as a separate IMPS transaction for settlement, reconciliation, dispute handling, and fees. 

• Standard IMPS guidelines, charges, and dispute mechanisms remain applicable, and members must ensure compliance and inform sub-members.
