The Government of Punjab on March 13, 2026, issued the notification regarding the Guidelines for EWS and Disadvantaged Group Reservation
The following has been stated namely: -
• Punjab has issued new guidelines (replacing the 2010 notification) to implement Section 12(1)(c) for school admissions.
• Economically Weaker Section (EWS) is defined as families with annual income below ₹8 lakh, subject to periodic revision.
• “Disadvantaged groups” include SC, OBC (non-creamy layer), children of war widows, disabled parents, children with disabilities (as per Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016), and orphans.
• Reservation split is 50:50 between EWS and disadvantaged groups, with 12.5% seats each in private unaided schools.
• The State Government will reimburse fees for these students, and the notification is effective immediately.
