The Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) on March 27, 2026, notified regarding the Strengthening Enforcement against Unauthorized Promotion and Distribution of GLP-1 Based Drugs.
The following has been stated:
•The CDSCO, in coordination with State Licensing Authorities (SLAs), has conducted a nationwide enforcement drive to address illegal distribution, non-compliant dispensing, and misuse of GLP-1-based weight loss drugs. Audits and inspections were carried out across online pharmacies, wholesalers, retail outlets, and wellness clinics, with notices issued to entities violating approval conditions or labeling requirements.
•State and UT Drug Controllers are instructed to strengthen monitoring of the entire supply chain, ensuring manufacturing, import, distribution, sales, and dispensing occur only through authorized channels and in line with approved indications and labeling. Any diversion, leakage, promotional influence, or non-compliance shall be addressed with regulatory action.
•Additionally, authorities are directed to monitor print, digital, social media, and outdoor advertising for non-compliant promotions and take action under the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954 and Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940, coordinating with ASCI or other agencies if needed.
