The Ministry of Mines, on April 06, 2026, issued a notification regarding amendments to the Mineral Concession Rules.
The following has been stated: -
•The Ministry of Mines has amended rules to allow inclusion of contiguous areas and associated minerals in mining leases and licences.
•Contiguous area expansion is capped at 10% for mining leases and 30% for composite licences, with applicable payments based on auction status.
•State Governments must approve inclusion of additional minerals within 30 days, with incentives for critical and deep-seated minerals.
•The reforms aim to boost mineral production, ease business, and enhance resource availability for industries and MSMEs.
