The Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI) on April 07, 2026, issued a notification regarding the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme: Transforming India’s Food Processing Sector.
The following has been stated: -
•The Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme for Food Processing (2021–27) aims to boost value addition, capacity expansion, global branding, and employment with an outlay of ₹10,900 crore.
•It covers key segments like Ready-to-Eat foods, processed fruits & vegetables, marine products, and mozzarella cheese, along with support for SMEs and international branding.
•A total of 128 companies (including strong MSME participation) have been approved, leading to modernization, technology upgrades, and expansion across 22 states.
•Investments exceeded commitments (₹9,207 crore vs ₹7,722 crore), creating 34 lakh MT capacity and generating about 3.29 lakh jobs, with steady growth in sales and exports.
•The scheme has significantly boosted millet-based products, strengthened domestic value chains, increased farmer income, and enhanced India’s global presence in food processing.
