The Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India (IBBI) on April 08, 2026, issued press release on Research study on Resolution Professionals conducted by Management Development Institute, Gurgaon.
The Management Development Institute has conducted a research study titled “Study on Resolution Professionals”, examining the role and functioning of Resolution Professionals (RPs) under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016. The study highlights key aspects of the Corporate Insolvency Resolution Process (CIRP) and evaluates the effectiveness of insolvency professionals within the current framework.
The study recommends strengthening the insolvency ecosystem by enhancing the role and eligibility of Insolvency Professionals (IPs), including professionals with managerial and financial expertise. For large CIRPs exceeding ₹1,000 crore, it proposes a dual structure, where IPs or Insolvency Professional Entities (IPEs) oversee resolution and compliance, while a specialised SPV manages operations. It also suggests introducing a case-based examination system for IPs, along with stricter measures such as removal of professionals involved in fraudulent conduct and mandating performance guarantees.
Further, the report emphasizes improving transparency through arm’s length appointment of valuers, and calls for structured capacity-building and training programs for IPs and IPEs. Overall, the study provides actionable recommendations to enhance the efficiency, transparency, and robustness of India’s insolvency resolution framework.
