The Government of Goa, on April 8, 2026, issued a notification under Section 135B of the Representation of the People Act, 1951 declaring Thursday, April 9, 2026, as a paid holiday in the State. The holiday is declared as “Polling Day” for the General Elections to the Kerala Legislative Assembly and Puducherry Legislative Assembly, 2026, for all eligible voters employed in Goa.
The notification mandates that every person employed in any business, trade, industrial undertaking, or other establishment in Goa, who is entitled to vote in the said elections, shall be granted a paid holiday. This holiday is in addition to the holidays already notified earlier by the General Administration Department and applies across the State.
The benefit of this paid holiday is extended broadly to include workers of all establishments, including commercial and industrial units, as well as daily wage and casual workers employed in government departments, industrial undertakings, or other establishments.
