The Government of Himachal Pradesh on April 01, 2026, issued the Himachal Pradesh Panchayati Raj (Amendment) Bill, 2026, to further amend the Himachal Pradesh Panchayati Raj Act, 1994.
The following has been stated namely: -
• Section 2 which states “Definitions” the following clause shall be inserted namely: -
“(16-A) “Gram Sabha member” means a person who has attained the age of 18 years on the date of Gram Sabha meeting and whose name is registered in the Parivar Register or entered in the list of voter of such Gram Sabha relating to panchayat elections”
• Section 122 which states “Disqualifications” has been inserted namely: -
“(1) A person shall be disqualified for being chosen as an office bearer of a panchayat -
(a) if he is under trial in a competent court which has taken cognizance and has framed the charges against him of the offences under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 (61 of 1985)
(b) if he is so disqualified by or under any law for the time being in force for the purposes of the election to the State Legislature”
