The Government of Kerala, on April 13, 2026, issued a notification regarding the Fake Heatwave alert circulating in the State.
The following has been stated: -
•The Kerala State Disaster Management Authority has clarified that viral social media claims of temperatures reaching 54°C in Kerala are false and meant to create panic.
•No such prediction has been made by the India Meteorological Department or any official authority.
•A misleading WhatsApp message falsely attributed to “Civil Defence” is spreading unscientific warnings and incorrect instructions.
•Spreading such fake news is punishable under the Disaster Management Act, 2005, and strict action will be taken against offenders.
