Industry Specific ComplianceThe Government of Karnataka, on April 10, 2026, notified the Karnataka Municipalities and Certain Other Law (Amendment) Act, 2026, further to amend the Karnataka Municipalities Act, 1964, and the Karnataka Municipal Corporations Act, 1976.

The following has been stated: -

•The amendment introduces a new framework for the levy of advertisement fees by municipal councils and corporations in Karnataka. 

•It mandates that no advertisement can be displayed without prior written permission from the municipal authority after payment of applicable fees. 

•Unauthorized advertisements can be removed or demolished, with penalties, fines, and 18% interest on delayed payments.

•Certain advertisements (e.g., public meetings, elections, candidacies) are exempt from fees. 

•Several earlier provisions, clauses, and schedules are omitted or replaced to streamline and strengthen the regulation of advertisements.

It shall come into force at once.
