The Department of Panchayati Raj, Himachal Pradesh, on April 10, 2026, issued the Draft Himachal Pradesh Panchayati Raj (Election) Third Amendment Rules, 2026, further to amend the Himachal Pradesh Panchayati Raj (Election) Rules, 1994.
The following has been stated: -
•The amendment removes the mandatory 7-day timeline for convening meetings under Rules 85 and 86.
•It introduces a requirement that separate notices must be issued for oath-taking meetings and for the election of Chairman/Vice Chairman.
•The earlier requirement to complete elections within 10 days of the first or adjourned meeting has been deleted.
•These changes apply to both Rule 85 and Rule 86 of the Himachal Pradesh Panchayati Raj (Election) Rules, 1994.
•Overall, the amendment provides greater procedural flexibility in scheduling meetings and conducting elections.
The objections or suggestions, if any, may be submitted within 7 days.
